Our Philosophy

Education kindles appreciation.
Appreciation sparks passion.
Passion ignites action.
Entomological Society of America Science Communication Award
We are the proud recipient of the 2024 Science Communication Award from the Entomological Society of America.
Hands-On
  • We prioritize direct interaction with live, uncaged insects to create lasting educational impact.

  • Programs are designed for field, classroom, and public event settings, fostering tactile, memorable experiences.

  • Hands-on learning builds curiosity, respect, and confidence in participants of all ages.

Adaptability
  • We model scientific integrity by embracing two essential phrases: “I don’t know” and “I was wrong.”

  • Our educators promote critical thinking and intellectual humility, hallmarks of real science and lifelong learning.

  • Adaptability is the foundation of scientific progress and evidence-based education.

Accessible & Inclusive
  • We are committed to breaking barriers between people and insects through approachable, inclusive programming.

  • Our education initiatives are built to be welcoming to all, regardless of background, ability, class, or identity.

  • Every participant should not only access our programs but feel valued and safe while learning.

Traveling Exhibits

We travel to schools, museums, nature centers, farmer's markets, Brownie troops, homeschools, craft fairs... anywhere that will have us share our passion for insects and environmental conservation.

Our programs are uncaged, hands-on engaging experiences. From "Yuck" to "Wow" - You'll be amazed at how much fun we can have learning about insects.

Science Cafés

Have you ever thought, "You know what would make this beer even better? If I could talk about science and insects while I drink it!"

Then, oh boy, do we have news for you!

The GEC's Science Cafés are informal, engaging events that bring together scientists, insect enthusiasts, and the general public to discuss fascinating topics in entomology in casual settings like bars, restaurants and cafes. These casual meet-ups are designed to spark curiosity, promote open dialogue and engagement, and deepen understanding of the critical role insects play in our world. Each Science Café features expert speakers who share insights on topics such as insect biodiversity, defensive adaptations, parasitism, insect conservation, entomophagy, etc.

With a focus on accessibility, these ultra-casual free Q&A sessions empower attendees to become more informed and active in environmental stewardship.

So grab a pint, a coffee or whatever your libation may be, and let's talk about the exciting world of entomology, connect with like-minded individuals, and learn how insects can help solve global challenges!
